How Much Does Logo Design Cost for a Small Business in Scotland?

Your logo is the most visible thing about your business. It's on your van, your website, your invoices, your social media, and your signage. Get it right and it builds trust every time someone sees it. Get it wrong and it undermines everything else you do. So what should it cost — and what are you actually paying for?

The honest answer — it depends on who's doing it

Logo design in Scotland ranges from £30 on a freelance marketplace to £5,000 from a full-service brand agency. Both will hand you a file with a logo in it. What separates them is the thinking, the process, and the output.

A £30 logo from a marketplace is typically a stock icon with your business name dropped next to it in a downloaded font. It looks like a logo. It won't feel like your business, it won't be unique, and it almost certainly won't come with the file formats you'll need when a sign company or printer asks for a vector file.

A £5,000 agency logo involves strategy sessions, competitor analysis, multiple concept routes, and a full brand guidelines document. For most small Scottish businesses, that's more than you need.

The sweet spot for a small business is somewhere in the middle.

What should a small business logo cost in Scotland in 2026?

For a professionally designed logo from a local designer or small studio — one that's built from scratch, unique to your business, supplied in all the right file formats, and comes with basic guidance on usage — a fair price in Scotland in 2026 is between £300 and £900.

At the lower end you're getting a solid, professional logo with one or two concept directions. At the higher end you're getting a more developed process, more concepts to choose from, and often a basic brand guidelines document alongside the final files.

What should be included when you commission a logo?

At minimum, a professionally delivered logo should include: a primary logo version, a simplified icon or mark version for small applications, your colour palette with the exact colour codes, your font choices, and files in both PNG and SVG or EPS formats. The vector file — SVG or EPS — is essential. Without it you can't scale the logo for signage, vehicle graphics, or print without it pixelating.

If a designer can't supply a vector file, that's a red flag.

Do I need brand guidelines as well?

For most small businesses, a basic one or two page brand guidelines document is worth having alongside the logo. It specifies exactly which colours to use, which fonts to use, and how the logo should and shouldn't be applied — so that whether you're briefing a sign company, posting on Instagram, or having letterheads printed, everything looks consistent.

Without it, the logo slowly drifts. Colours get approximated. Fonts get substituted. The brand that looked sharp at launch starts to look inconsistent within a year.

We include brand guidelines as standard on all logo projects at Hutcheson Design Studio — because a logo without guidance on how to use it is only half the job done.

Real example — EDM Group Recruitment

When EDM Group came to us they had no logo, no brand, and no web presence. We built their identity from scratch — logo, colour palette, typography, and brand guidelines — giving them a professional foundation to launch a recruitment business into a competitive sector. The brand guidelines meant that from day one, every piece of collateral they produced looked consistent and credible, regardless of who was putting it together.
